Studying Abroad

My latest situation that I need help on is whether or not to study abroad next semester. If I made a pro and con list, I know the con list would be longer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the better choice, mainly for the fact that I’d be going to LONDON. That’s right, London, ENGLAND. For those of you who don’t know me very well, I have never been out of the country before. And the number one place I’ve always wanted to go to is London. My family lived there for 6 months before I was born, so I’ve always felt like I need to see it. There are a few reasons why I’m having such trouble deciding. The first one would have to do with how easily I can get homesick. Everyone knows I went to the University of Iowa my freshman year, and quickly decided that it was not the place for me and I needed to come home. After living at home for a full year, I am now living in the dorms at UIC and I am not homesick at all, mind you I am only 45 minutes away from my house. Now if I were to study abroad, I can’t just fly back and forth whenever I want. I would never be going home, until the semester is over of course. Also, there’s the whole money issue since I’d be using loans to pay for all of this. And because my math major has absolutely nothing to do with London, I wouldn’t be taking any major courses and would have to do summer school at UIC next summer, which is just more money and more commuting. You can already see that there are more cons than pros, but going to London for 4 months pretty much outweighs all of those cons. Alternatively, I could go there during the summer for 6 weeks instead of a whole semester. That would be saving money and lowering the chance of me being very homesick. But that also means less time in London, which means less time in Europe. I don’t only want to see London, I want to see France, Spain, Italy, Greece, basically anywhere you can think of (I’ve never been anywhere, people). I don’t think 6 weeks is long enough to do everything I want to do. And one of my very good friends from high school is studying abroad next semester, so I would have her there, where as in the summer, I won’t know anybody. It’s a lot to think about, and I have very little time to do it, so any comments would be greatly appreciated :)

The Many Stages of My Sunburn

Last weekend I went to my friend’s beach house. Because it was really cloudy, none of us put much sun screen on, and some didn’t put on any at all. I would be one of those people. So naturally, I got the worst sunburn in the world.

Stage 1: Excruciating Pain. This entails not being able to walk, sit, stand, lay, move, eat, breath, etc, without wanting to cry out in pain. I would say this lasts about one day.

Stage 2: Itching. Everywhere you are burned, you just want to scratch. But of course if you scratch your sunburn, that hurts like hell. So you gently rub your fingers over the itch, and that just leads to more itching. For me, this lasted about two days.

Stage 3: Bubbling. This is when your sunburn doesn’t exactly form blisters, but it looks like you have thousands of little bubbles all over your body just waiting to burst, and then they slowly disappear. My bubbles kept showing up after I worked out. My boyfriend said it is because of the heat from my sweat. Likely story. I’m not sure how long this will last, but I will keep you updated.

Stage 4: Peeling. Even though I consistently put aloe on all over my body 3-4 times a day, I am still peeling. I thought that was what aloe was for. What the f. I’m guessing this will last until all the skin on my body has been peeled off.

Tuesday vs. Thursday

So I know not many people read my blog, but I need advice about something. I register for the fall semester this Tuesday, and I am going to have the option of not having class on either Tuesday or Thursday next semester. But for the life of me, I can’t decide which one is better. So I need help. I made a pro/con list of course, so here it is:

Pros For No Class On Tuesdays

1. On the weekend of Labor Day, I would have a 4 day weekend.

2. On the week of Thanksgiving, I would have 3 days off instead of just 2.

3. I can get all my homework done that is due for the rest of the week.

4. I can go home Monday nights if I wasn’t able to go home that weekend.

5. I won’t have to be back at school at a certain time on Tuesday night, as opposed to when having Thursday off, I’d have to be back at 6 for Chapter.

6. Mondays always suck, and the best thing would be to not go to class the next day.

Pros For No Class On Thursdays

1. After class on Wednesday is over, it will basically feel like the end of the week already.

2. I could go home on Wednesday night.

3. I could get all my homework done that is due the following week and not have to do anything during the weekend.

4. I would be less likely to ditch class on Friday because going back to school on Thursday for chapter is a must, as opposed to not having class on Tuesdays, and ditching Mondays occasionally. (I have a major problem with ditching class.)

5. It won’t feel like there are 2 Mondays in the week, because the day after my day off is a Friday, as opposed to having Tuesday off, and Wednesday feeling like another Monday.

Your thoughts please?

Stress… again

So it’s about that time of the year where I get really, really stressed. I have a ton of studying to do that I don’t want to do, I freak out and think my life is over because of the grades I’m getting, I go through every “what if” situation possible, I procrastinate, I eat, I stay up late; basically it’s a bad time.

Pepsi vs. Milk

Recently, I have decided to try and give up caffeine from my diet completely. The reason I’ve been doing this is because I used to have pop twice a day, sometimes even 3 times a day. I love Pepsi so much that I would look for something to eat that tastes good with Pepsi just so I could drink it. I’ve realized that I have been replacing Pepsi with milk. I have a glass of milk every single morning, and sometimes more than that. I’m starting to look for chocolate foods to eat just so I can drink milk with it! I think this is a healthy step in my diet.

My Future!…Well, The Next Few Semesters

So, if you are someone who knows me at all, then you know how obsessed I am with planning things, especially planning class schedules. I must have redone by schedule for this semester 37 times before I got it just right (just ask my friend Al, I showed her every single revision thinking this would be the one!). Speaking of Al, I also offered to make her schedule for her, and I also made my boyfriends schedule! I’m not sure why I’m so into it, but I’m already thinking about next semester and what my days will look like. Not only next semester, but the rest of my college career. It’s getting to be a bit ridiculous, since every time something goes wrong I claim my life is falling apart. One positive piece of information I would like to share is that, if everything goes according to plan, this will be the last semester of having class 5 days a week!

Gifts

On January 25th, 2010, my boyfriend and I will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary. This means we’ve celebrated his birthday 4 times, my birthday 3 times, Valentine’s Day 3 times, Christmas 4 times, and our anniversary twice. All these special occasions require gifts, and I am completely out of ideas. I really like making creative gifts for my him, and then buy him something as well. I’ve got that part down, but not the creative part. I’ve made him a scrapbook, a picture book, picture frames, collages, CDs, lists of reasons why I love him, coupon books, etc. I have officially run out of things to make him! I only have 8 days to figure something out.. I need help :(

Loner

I need to stop watching movies by myself because I need to talk to someone about the questions I have. Every time I ask someone if they’ve seen the movie I just watched, either they haven’t, or they saw it a long time ago, so they are absolutely no help to me. Another reason to stop watching movies alone? So I don’t feel like such a loser.

Nine Lives

If I were to be like a cat, and have the privilege of having nine lives, these are the following men I would marry in each life time, in no particular order.

1. Chris Pine. Everyone probably knows him from Star Trek, but I first saw him in Just My Luck starring with Lindsay Lohan.

2. Zach Gilford. This actor is from one of my favorite TV shows Friday Night Lights and also stars in the movie Post-Grad.

3. Ryan McCullough. Many of you will probably know him as my current boyfriend.

4. Peter Petrelli. Now I’m not talking about the actor, Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Peter in the TV show Heroes. I’m talking about the actual character.

5. Chris Carrabba. This is the lead singer of one of my favorite bands, Dashboard Confessional.

6. Kevin Rose. I love him.

7. Jake Gyllenhaal. Just recently starred in the movie Brothers and is also in other very popular movies like Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain.

8. Zac Hanson. Hanson is my all time favorite band, and like most other girls, Zach has always been my favorite.

9. Adrian Grenier. Most people know him from Entourage, but I know him from one of my favorite movies Drive Me Crazy.
